multi instrumentalist and singer maryja symone johnson and percussionist eric thomas joined together at the rhythm sticks festival in london in july 2004 to create new sounds that have been influenced by afro-caribbean origins. they have successfully performed at different concerts and festivals throughout europe. their first single >je suis music< edited by thiaba records is an adaptation of the original disco hit written in 1978 by international artist cerrone. afro-urban concept completely transformed this song by playing soca grooves with new melodies but the dance floor flavor stays alive. on side 1 is the vocal version with some extended piano, drums and percussions improvisations at the end. on side 2 the first track is an instrumental version recorded with the typical 70s sound where the drums and percussion are in evidence. the second track is more an hypnotic london drum n bass version.

emptyset is a bristol based production project formed by james ginzburg, aka ginz, boss of the multiverse network of labels and paul purgas a longstanding electronic dj/collector and curator of this years we can elude control compilation. their collective agenda has been exploring techno music’s diverse influences and compiling them to a studio template focused on tight production and detailed sound design. inspired by the city’s culture of bass lead production as well as the global resurgence of electronic music, the sound has been described as techno meets dubstep folded back onto techno again, a description which is perhaps the most insightful to date. the project owes credit to the classic releases of m-plant, sahko and chain reaction as well as more recent producers such as alva noto, deathprod and burial. emptyset acts as a research project connecting the ideas of a modern dancefloor with experimental approaches to music and its design.

the second in the tribute series comes from the situation posse. continuing tributes aim to supply festival inspired battle weapons and club anthems for djs, we love leon rips a guitar riff from a well known pop band and surrounds it with played situation-style balearic goodness and then blends it all together with an ace vocal by gill scott golden. the result is a highly original and stunning melt of sound which has already had big support from djs like greg wilson and which really captures that festival vibe of old. cut loud on single-sided heavy weight vinyl, the tribute series is set to inflict some serious dancefloor damage
